Telling the story of the hyperloop

Hyperloop was a pipe dream when it all started. Exhibitions are great mediums to engage the audience and communicate the feasibility of the technology while being inspirational. I had the opportunity to create multiple exhibition experiences and experiment with various tools to present the storytelling of certain aspects of the technology. The key products include the thoughtfully curated Los Angeles Headquarter Showroom, capsule experience demonstration in CIIE, Shanghai, and the capsule fuselage reveal in MWC Barcelona.

Project details:

    • The historical hanger was transformed into an office and showroom in 2015

    • Multiple iterations until 2020

    • Creating a compelling storytelling in the early stage of the company without much content

    • Building an inspiring, unique and memorable visit experience for all

    • Setting up a flexible procedure to quickly update exhibition items and change space layout

    • Delivering high-quality outcome with limited budget, resources and time

    • Create initial storytelling with CEO and build out the first version in two months

    • Expand the showroom experience throughout the years by enriching the storytelling and producing interactive exhibition pieces

    • Translate the storytelling into actual exhibition pieces

    • Design and build certain exhibition pieces , including space layout, the original capsule interior prototype, eddy drop, and more

    • Create infrastructure and content for multi-media technologies including projection, interactive displays, and VR/AR

    • Design or provide creative direction to the graphic and digital content

    • Design, prototype, and produce merchandize product

    • Source vendors that can work with the budget and achieve high quality

Exhibition-inspired souvenir products

Visitors’ emotions and memories continue with takeaway items. I led the team to brainstorm, design, and produce the souvenir pieces as an extension of storytelling. Besides swag products, some pieces are inspired by the displays in Showroom.

Full-scale capsule interior section mockup with Virtual Reality experience in CIIE, Shanghai

Collaboration with ICONA

Project details:

    • Capsule interior mockup with VR demonstration during CIIE, Shanghai, China in 2021

    • Utilizing an event to release the capsule experience worldwide

    • Telling a compelling passenger experience story with limited space

    • Producing high-quality VR experience in a trade show environment with multiple users at the same time

    • Brainstorm with the team on exhibition strategy and reached the conclusion on the full-scale section mock-up with VR

    • Finalize the mockup design with the ICONA team

    • Bring onboard the VR developer team and produce the VR application with ICONA team

    • Troubleshoot on technical issues with the developer team during VR testing

    • Coordinate photography and filming remotely during the event


Unveiling the second capsule in MWC 2023, Barcelona

Collaboration with GSMA (event organizer) and Elisava (School of Design and Engineering of Barcelona )

Project details:

    • Preparation of the MWC Barcelona started in December 2022

    • The event was opened to the public from February 27 to March 3, 2023

    • Participating in the world-leading technology conference with little budget allocated

    • Constant changes due to moving the full-scale capsule fuselage to Barcelona

    • Extreme fast-pace in decision-making under uncertainties that involve multiple stakeholders

    • Bring onboard Elisava as part of the exhibition

    • Lead the layout, storytelling, and look and feel for the exhibition space

    • Lead the appearance design of the second capsule fuselage

    • Drive for high-quality outcome despite limited time and budget

    • Source contractors and coordinate with sponsors to build out the space

    • Coordinate with event organizer GSMA on general logistics for the large-scale trade show

    • Provide creative direction to the on-site photographer
